front input shaft seal?

I have my tractor split for ring gear replacement. Someone told me to replace this seal as well.

I have the F&O manual, and several books and catalog and I can't figure out what part the "front input shaft seal" is.

Can someone point to an exploded diagram, a part number or a page number in one of the books?

thanks.

Just in case Dells instructions weren't clear to you, when you look inside the bell housing, you will notice a large cast iron trumpet that supports the throw out bearing for the clutch (has the springs hooked to it). If you look back you will see 4 bolts that hold this "trumpet" to the tranny housing. By removing these four bolts, you will gain access to the input shaft bearing and seal. As Dell said, it will help if you go ahead and use the input shaft as a clutch alignment tool so go ahead and remove it anyways.

The input shaft comes out with the housing. Go ahead and slide the input shaft out of the housing (nothing will come loose or flying out at you, so don't worry). Now, if you look up inside the housing (trumpet) you should see a small lip seal up in there somewhere. This is what you should replace. Easy to do and you may as well go ahead and do it, or else you'll have to tear the tractor back down to this point next time to replace it (not fun).

Oh yeah; don't forget to order your little paper gasket for the trumpet-to-tranny housing 4-bolt connection.

Hope this helps!

Jeb

Rob..... ...yer tranny input shaft seal is INSIDE (where else?) yer 4-bolt tranny input shaft. p/n 8N-7052-(A1,A2,A3,A4) $3, (cheap)

Tip: ya gotta remove yer tranny input shaft ennyways to act as a clutch disc centering tool as you bolt down yer clutch pressure plate that you removed so you could remove yer engine flywheel so you can HEAT yer starter ring gear for replacement.

The tranny input seal is #38 of my FO-108 exploded diagram on pg74 in my 1995 104pg I&T FO-4 manual..... ..... Dell

I have identified this seal -- but I wasn't planning on removing the tranny input shaft because I have a commercial clutch centering tool.

I don't think the seal is leaking. Is it still worth it?

(and thanks to all for the help so far)
