What is the best Genesee or Pertronics for a NAA ? Any pros/cons, are they identicals/equivalent? I believe Genesee installation needs to remove dust cover, is it the same for Pertronics ?
Thanks, Rlach

Hi, I installed the Genesse on my 53NAA a few years back and it has worked well. It came with its on dust cover and coil. Took about 20 minutes to install. No complaints. Tractor runs good and idles down to about 350 with it. I think it is a more complete kit that just the Pertronix one. But I could be wrong. Genesse was first and it uses a Pertronix trigger module.

Thanks Mike S,
I understand that the modules are rather equivalent; they use identical pick-up coil and the main difference would be the semiconductor device that stops current flow through the primary of coil after a signal is given by the armature? I read in the archive that Genesee semiconductor would burn if the ignition key is left on for a long period; is Pertronics semiconductor as sensitive ?
Thanks, Rlach

There is NO separate pick-up coil and module.

They are one unit, encapsulated in epoxy.

As a matter of fact there is no pick-up coil at all. They use a solid-state Hall-effect switch located on the same circuit board has the transistor switch.

Yes, they Pertronix units have been known to burn out if the key is left on. It is a function of the primary resistance of the coil used and the resistance and characteristics of the ballast resistor (if used) that determines how hot the module will get.

The Pertronix II units shut down when distributor rotation stops and there is no primary circuit current flow, so there is no heating of the coil or module. I have not looked to see if they make a II unit for the NAA.

There is an on-line applications catalog at www.pertronix.com.
