What's a sandblaster cost?

Anybody found a worthwhile "home use" sandblaster in the $300 price range? Y'all understand that this is not only for N-dora. There's at least one horse trailer and possibly a car hauler to "justify" the expense. Momma says "a couple hundred" so I figure that means $200 plus tax, title, license and dealer preparation equals $300.
I don't work fast enough more than one day in a row to justify renting one.
Thanks for your experiences.
Russ

As a person whos makes his living sandblasting(I resist the urge to call myself a professional)I have some definite opinions on sandblasting equipment. You can get a pressure pot form Northern or TIP. A good used 100 lb. Lindsey will cost around $400. The lindsey and several others have easier controls and purge valves. The cheaper units have vavles that are less accessible. If you only have occasional use, you might consider renting a good 125-185 cfm compressor. Most people use way too much sand and not enough air. The optimum use comes when you can barely see the sand and the air sounds "steady.". If you hear the nozzle pulsating(pfft-pfft-pfft)you have too much sand and not enough air. A water separator is essential, as sand and water don't work well together in a blaster.
There is NO FACIAL-FIT RESPIRATOR APPROVED FOR USE WITH SILICA SAND. OSHA says you need to use a full-head enclosed helmet with remote fresh-air supply. With synthetic abrasives there is no silicosis danger, but you still need a respirator. Syntehetics costs around $1-2.00/lb whereas sand costs less than $5.00/100 lbs.

I got a pressure one from Northern. Holds about 90 lbs of sand. Was 150 or so, but have seen then on sale for 129. But to run it you really need a fairly big compressor. My original 2 HP compressor just couldn't do it. Neither could my neighbor's 5 HP one. Now I have my jeepressor that puts out lots of CFM at about 85 psi. It will run the pressure blaster for about 20-30 minutes straight before the sand is gone. If you use regular sand, make sure you get a good mask. Silicosis is not good for you.

Northern has some good ones. One is a pressurized pot, just like the big guys. Almost $200. Don't know how it works though. I borrowed one of those small ones that syphon the sand out. I don't care much for it. Its kinda slow, but it gets the job done. Used it to blast the fenders on my N did right good. Used 1 bag of sand and three hours of time.
