I borrowed the tractor, and assured the owner that I would check the trans lube now and then, but I pulled out the left side shift fork pivot by mistake, and bent the stampped forks when I put it back in. I figgered it out and got everything in place, but the forks will need to come out to be straightened properly. The top shift rail will need to be moved back enough to allow fork removal, but will this require splitting the tractor, or can I just slide it back a couple inches to get the forks out?

I don't think you can get it out without breaking the tractor.

I would try heating it where it is bent till it is red hot and then push it back into place while holding the other side firmly in place. Hold it there till it cools and it should stay put.
