Did you ever get your tractor stuck?
I got stuck yesterday.
I was moving dirt with a pond scoop.
I"m trying to fill in a ditch in front of a house.
I got it in the ditch yesterday and it sunk in the soft dirt.
I trying the steering brakes. Both wheels would spin.
I tryed putting wife on it and pushing.
It was stuck good.
Got real lucky and a neighbor came along with his tractor.
He used his FEL and pushed my tractor out of the ditch.
Don"t know what I would have done if he hadn"t come along.

So, have you ever been stuck.
What are some good ways for getting unstuck.
Cause I"m sure this won"t be my first time.

I was mowing a neighbors property a few years ago, and drove across a 'dry' pond to help pull out a small car that was stuck. About 20' from the car, the tractor ( a NH 1920 ) sunk down tot he axles.. high center.. al 4 wheels spinning.

HAd to dig the wheels out.. and use my trailer ramps under the rears, as well as using another neighbors truck with a tow strap to get my tractor out.. etc. Took all day.

Oh yeah. I have a wet area that one day I will dig for a pond. In the meantime, you can usually cut it a month out of the year. I got in there with my 4000 and all was good and got brave to do a really wet area and went in to the axles almost instantly. I then went and got my new (at the time)4X4 dually with a big heavy motor in it and buried it in a good section (they do not make good mudders). Called a buddy of mine and he come over with a block and a few hundred feet of rope. tied to the truck, put the block on a pine tree and pulled the truck and the 4000 out with my 9N. 25 years ago, about 12 years old, fired up the D9 cat, buried it and messed up one of the tracks. That was an a** beatin.

If ya drive a tractor long enough, you WILL get stuck! I have been stuck many times! One thing I learned, is if you think you are getting stuck, don't flail around and make it worse! I've personally seen things stuck that could have been rescued except the driver thought he could power it out, and just wound up digging it deeper! Stop and examine the situation, sometimes all it takes is a minor Traction Improving thing. Otherwise, get help BEFORE you dig it in until a wrecker has to be called! Of course, tractors seem to get stuck in places that wreckers can't get to, hehehe. Advice from somebody who has been driving N's all his life! Well, maybe not all the life, but most of it, hehehe.

Tractors and stuck seem to be a universally contagious condition. Anyone who says "never" I don't believe.
I've been stuck so many times I would like to apply for the world record. (my wife and kids will testify to it) Each time can be different circumstances and require a different solution. My wife says stay out of the mud! Phooey!
If stuck with a 3 point implememt, unhook if you don't have another vehicle to pull you. You can't plow while your stuck. I've frequently drove out and then used a chain to pull the plow out backwards to higher ground.
Dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig...by hand. Clear the dirt from in front, rear and under the tractor. Put planks or old tires down for the rear tires to climb onto. And, once moving, don't stop until you are out. BUT, don't spin the wheels especially if you aren't moving!
If you have another tractor, as you said, you still need a driver on the stuck tractor. Unless you have a very powerful pulling tractor, you can't "dead pull" a stuck tractor. Believe me! Been there, done that (14 years old).
Lastly, once you are out, quickly wash the tractor, don't tell your wife, and go do something else. grin

I was blading a trench last year where i had run a water line about three feet deep. Trench had been backfilled but had been filled with water and the dirt was real soft. I was straddled the ditch trying to smooth off the surface when I misjudged where the trench was and got into where the trench was. Sunk it in up to the axles on the back, and the engine was on the ground in the front....I had to use a floor jack, planks, and blocking and about 4 hrs to jack it up and get wood under so I could get it out....that was a mess

Ive gotten stuck and have at times had to have an assist to get out;ive used a come along, neughbors jeep winch,Chevy truck. Often trying tractor power just dug a bigger hole. But the times when you did get unstuck by yourself made you keep trying when it was hopeless anyway.Getting unstuck always feels good.Hard to judge wet soil and mud sometimes.

I use Dave's solution; get another tractor! I've got three, so the only problem I have is getting the wife on the one that is stuck while I pull it out w/ one of the others. Oh yea, and listening to her gripe about "Stuck again?". She did ask me once if any of the tractors actually ran, or were they just used as yard ornaments & something to work on..... ..

Not sure if you could of not, but if you rase the attachment on the 3ph, it will add more weight to the rear tires. The more weight, the better your chances of getting out.

We all get into spots that are questionable, I have three tractors so I can get unstuck if I get in a bad spot, I have had my tractors in mud up and water up to the running boards and not been stuck the best advise is don't stop in the mud keep moving and don't rev the engine to try and pull out I get into mud all of the time and always get out by going slow in 1st gear. Also good tires with the addition of chains and you will have to look for somewhere to get stuck.

You aint stuck untill your front wheels quit turning. Dig out and put planks or old hay down for the read wheels to climb out. Use low gear on the pullout tractor. Also put the stuck tractor in a gear matching the pullout speed. Have fun and be careful. Best part was having to train wife to drive tractor.

Be careful steveormary
