Checked the 9N today or I belive its a 9N and the #"s on the block are gone.I was able to get some #"s off the head but they look like part #"s.They are 9N6050-B then under that it has ONY-6050 then there is a Diamond under both #"s. On the right trumpet I was able to get a couple of #"s and they are RO1-P2. Now the R in the # I"m not sure thats what it really is but it looks like an R.

Some of the tractor characteristics of this tractor are. It has a cast aluminum dash and battery box. It has a big radiator that hangs over the fan and the cap locks on it are on the inside not the outside like my 8N. My 8N cap wont fit it. The axel hubs are not smooth like I have seen on some 9N"s they have rivet"s on the rear hubs and center bolt on front. The ignition key is on the left side of the steering column.

Sorry for the long post but does anybody have any idea what year this is.I"m probably going to sell it soon and I would like to tell them what year it is. THANKS

Yours may, like mine, have a replacement engine.
My serial number boss is blank because the engine is from a combine.
Mine is (best guess) a 41 but because of the engine swap, who knows :-) Mine has a sidemounted Wico Mag (converted to a distributor).
Your alum dash and battery box points towards an older unit, but it may have been swapped out at some point.

Questions: Do you have the aluminum trans cover. Where is your hydraulic oil dip stick. Do your front spindles have grease zerks on the front?
----- -
My '40 9n does not have any casting codes.
Riveted rear hubs are not a good indication of year since the smooth hubs were prone to breaking and got replaced (but not on mine :-) )

OK,the trans cover is not aluminum and the grease
zerks on the spindle housing are on the back side.
The hydro dip stick is on the right side (setting on tractor)

Sounds like a 1941 9N to me, right before they went to the rivited hubs in the rear. Suppose it could be an early 1942 2N as well, but I'd bet 1941. Check out the site below.

I'm thinking 1941/42 because the sight you gave me said the pressurized cooling system was introduced in 1942 and mine has the non pressurized system. THANKS for the help.

Well, you are correct in that those numbers do sound like part numbers to me also. Based on the evidence you give, you have a 9N for sure. That in itself narrows it down to 4 years: '39, '40, '41, and '42. Riveted rear hubs just means that the original smooth hubs could have been replaced (I beleive they were recalled or replaced free of charge in the event of breakage).

JAG and Kelly say to look on the steering column where the patent data plate normally goes and see if there's a number there This is usually within a few numbers of the engine if there is a number there. Don't forget about the casting code on the engine block on the bulge where the starter drive goes. Should be something on the order of "A123" with letter for month, 2 digits for day of month, and last digit being the last digit for the year.

Jeb

Thanks for the info. Now do you mean around the data plate or under it because it is still there, but it is not readable. And I could not find a # on the starter bulge. If it was there it has gone away. Thanks again
