I bought a new radiator for my 41 9n restoration. Originally the old one bolted up directly into the radiator through two holes on the bottom. This new one has two holes and keyways. This would not be a prob but they don"t line up with the original holes. If I try, the bottom return into the rad, hits the axil and still will not line up. Has anyone run into this? How am I to mount this?

I had a problem with a new radiator fitting on a 51 8N. The clearance wasn't enough for the hood. I was able to jimmy it in though. Problem is there are many variations to these machines that you find when you but new parts. Send it back and call a part specialist. Someone who deals in Ns.

I had that problem with a new radiator. in reply to Brian 41 9n, 03-21-2005 04:08:44
Turn out the axle support was distorted and bent up. I set it level and measured up to the radiator supports and had to bend stuff around to get them the same, plumb and level. I laid a straight edge across the the front of the axle support and it was bowed out so I straightened that. I fussed with it (heated, banged, and wailed on it) until I got it squared up all around. Pretty much anyway.
That axle support gets distorted then the axle might hit the radiator (ruins it with core leaks near the lower hose bib) and the front-mount distributor cap (breaks the nipple off), the fan might hit the radiator overflow line, the shroud won"t clear the fan so the shroud is probably missing, and the hood doesn"t fit right so you can hardly get the oil filter cartridge out.

Other than that it"s not a real problem.

Brian,I'm working on my 5th. N tractor and the Radiators "line up" with these mount holes and don't hit the axels anywhere. These Radiators "have" to fit.If it don't fit,it don't work.I'd return it.There has been some post that say the bottom outlet doesn't fit proper on some furin radiators but nothing like you discribe.Get the right one !!
