Did you find your knock? I got interested, again, in oil pressure and did some research last night. If you have a Jubilee/Naa owners manual check it out. It says that we should expect 8-10lbs of oil pressure on a cold startup and around 25lbs when everything reaches operating temp. That makes our 20+ cold pressure about 2 to 3 times better than the manual suggests/expects. Did you get that info from the other guy about an engine mounted gauge?

Randall - I am not sure I know the solution to my knock, I drained all the oil that was heavily infused with assembly grease overnight, I did find a very small sliver of curved metal in the oil drain pan that had a white painted surface on two sides when observed under a magnifying glass that I haven't identified yet. "May" be part of a bearing(?) Then I changed the oil filter and added fresh 10-40w oil. I got less than 5 oil pressure on the gauge until the oil filter got satuarated - the knock was still present. Then I added another quart or so to the engine to compensate for the oil filter absorption, and when I got to over the halfway mark for "ideal" on the dip stick the oil pressure gauge instantly jumped to around 60 and my engine smoothed out and purred quietly. Oil pressure issue? Oil level too low and not letting the crank shaft splash lubricate? Beats me, but I let it run for 45 minutes varying the speed (still breaking the engine in) and it stayed quiet, good oil pressure, no smoke at the tail pipe, and no blowby from the breather. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for signs of any damage, but so far so good.

I remember reading that thing about 8-10 lbs. of oil pressure on a cold startup in the operators manual, but never really believed it. Our oil pumps are much stronger than that, and everyone I talked with says the same thing, they get 20 or more on startup and it stabilizes at around 45 when warm. Maybe we use a thicker oil now(?)

I did get the info about the oil gauge, I am presently still looking for a replacement oil line.

I am currently stripping and painting my front wheels getting ready to install them so the tractor will be mobile. Then it is on to the rear end for painting, brake check, and new rear wheels (I still need one more scalloped center). After that, it will be the hydraulic system. Hydraulic pump and lift has already been rebuilt, just need to install the pump and the manifold, and of course test and adjust. Then lastly, sandblast the sheet metal, repair the rips in the left dogleg if possible, paint, and install. That will complete Project Rustbucket (and I will have to have a party to celebrate the event and dedication ceremonies).

Sorry so long,
Dan
