I have 2 '46 2Ns. I took the front wheels off one to get the rims cleaned up and mount some new skins.(6.00x16) I noticed the lug holes have been redrilled, and the old holes have been cut out. The rims have clearance holes ground in them for the socket to reach the lugs. I compared the rims and lug measurements between the 2 tractors and found them to be different. One is 6 1/2" between lugs and the other is 6" between lugs. What do I have here and what wheels will fit? If someone can tell me how to post a picture I could put pics of the rims on.

those are 36-39 Ford car wheels, the uncut has had the hubs switched to the car hubs while the cut has the orignal tractors hubs that are a bit larger, have all types seting out in barn but don't want to go out now to measure, a couple of years ago I posted the sizes on this board and you should be able to find it in the archives. fave a 41 9N that I converted with the car wheels with the orignal wheels and hubs setting here and a 44 2N with the aftermarket 16" on orignal hubs and the 32-35 hubs mentioned will not fit but the 41-48 hubs will and those use a standard 5 lug implement rim

Like Kelly said the 16" ones are probably from the 36-39? Ford car with the car hubs swapped on also and the other standard 9/2N. At one time I had the measurements to both but don't know what they are. If I remember tomorrow I'll look at a trailer sitting at work which has the car/truck axle in it and measure that bolt pattern. the guy won't sell me the trailer for the hubs and rims. it still has one v-8 hubcap on it.

Stycks, as far as I know, there is only one wheel 1939/47 and its a 10 1/2" bolt circle as all wheels I know of are measured in circles. not lug nut to lug nut. The Ford car wheels used something like 36/39 I thnk are 10 1/4" bolt circle. I've bought several tractors with Ford car wheels but they all had the Ford car hubs also, as the wheel brgs will swap as the B1201/B1216 wheel brgs go back to 1932 cars. Some of these still had the brake drum attached. You mentioned 16", there were some aftermarket 16" wheels that would bolt up to the 9N/2N hub, as I have a set of them with huge single rib tires. Thanks...Kelly.

Stycks..... ....yer description is un-clear. Yer 2N came from the factory with a 5-bolt widehub 3-19 rim and 4-19 tire. You are talking 16 tire.

Yes, you can cut and re-weld the 5-bolt widehub into a 16" rim.

There is a "rumor" that some of the 37-39 Ford passinger car widehub 16 rims will fit a 9N/2N 5-bolt widehub, but I have NOT been able to confirm that.

There is even a rumor that some of the early 5-bolt widehub VOLKSWAGGON rims will fitt..... ..the skeptical Dell

Here's the wheel off of the other tractor that has been modified. Note the difference in bolt pattern size. Sorry, I took these pics in the dark just now.

Yes, these are automotive rims with hubcap springs on them. Both pair look like early VW rims. But I wasn't aware of them making 16" rims. But that does'nt explain the difference in the bolt pattern on the 2 sets of hubs. I don't know if the hubs have been changed on one of them Thanks for the interest.

The very old VW bugs, with the two piece windshields, had 16" wheels. The wheels were hard to find 30 or 40 years ago. The picture that is posted looks like one of those. But my memory may be playing tricks.

Dell,

According to Palmer Fossum, those car rims will fit the 9N/2N tractors as he's seen some with them.

No clue on the VW rims.

Matt

Figure out where your photos are located on your hard drive and then...look on the left side of this page for "Galleries" and under that "Tractor Photos." Click it and then look across the header for "posting your own photo" or what it says like that. Follow the directions.
You do that click the photo until clicking doesn"t do anything. Then right click the photo/image and copy the "location." And then paste the "location" into the "Optional Image URL" field below this "Comments:" field. Then click "Submit Follow Up" and you know all that part. If the image doesn"t show when you review the message then back up and fix the problem. Don"t post it unless you see the pic on the review page.
