Like: Torque Convertor, Differential Locks! To name a few!
Drove my neighbors brand new *ohn *eere! All the 'Bells and Whistles'. WOW! What a machine! Even kills the engine, if you leave the seat. Did a bunch of work for him. Then went back to my 'simple 8-N'. Quite a cultural shock between 'old' and 'new'. (Quite a financial shock too.)

Most of those new JDs are really jap tractors with green paint on them, most are Yanmars, and the green paint adds about $1500 to the price

thats OK all those bells and whistles break down and thats why they say
20% of all JOHN DEERE's are in the shop
80% are in the field waiting to be towed to the shop
"NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE"
especially when it see's a FORD coming....
the other day i went to the parts store and asked
"how bout a gas cap for a john deere"????
and my parts guy said ""sounds like a fair trade to me"" haha

That can lead to an interesting conversation. John Deere still sells tractors (granted they originally bought the tractor business from Waterloo Boy Tractor Works), but that begs the question where is Ford, Oliver, Allis Chalmers, Massey Ferguson, International, et al? Seems that Deere seems to be the only one around with staying power, albeit the compact tractors are Japanese (where once they were German).

I believe that Oliver, Allis, Heston and Massey are all part of AGCO. IH is part of CNH (Case New Holland).

Take it one step farther, Ford tractors and CNH are owned by FIAT.

Does that make my 8N and my 424 IH step brothers???
