It's seems like the starter button on my 9N is not working, the battery is hot the wires are great, but I get nothing when I push the starter button, I can jump across the solenoid and get a start. Can anyone instruct me on how to repair this problem?

If you are talking about the big, 2-terminal switch mounted on the back of the steering column, it is quite possible for them to go bad. I had a brand new one go bad after 2 months (defective batch, it was warrantied). The other thing to check is that the switch is actually getting pushed far enough by the push rod. There should be a gasket between it and the steering column, and if it's too thick, no starty. Hope this gives you a place to start.

I had the 2-terminal switch tested, and it tested good, so I"m wandering how to get the rod out and see what shape it is in.

I'd start by removing any gaskets you have. Usually, this will get the switch so far in towards the push rod, that it will essentially always be "pushed in" and as soon as you connect a battery cable to it, your starter will start going off. If not, try hitting your normal starter button. If you still get nothing, i'd say it was a bad switch. I took mine out and tested it with an extra battery and a test light.

The rod on my 9n is held in place by a pin on the interior of the steering housing. To remove/inspect the rod, you would need to remove the upper steering housing. Two things to look at before that would be 1. Check that the button (located in front of shifter) is screwed down into the shift cover plate fully. 2. There is a taper pin below the button that the linkage pivots on. Excess wear on this pin could cause your problem.
