I recently bought what appears to be a 8N with a serial # 8360568. Trying to figure out what year model it is and there appears to be too many numbers here to decipher the model. Can anyone help?

I'm think'im you're reading "*" asterisks at the beginning and end of the number as "8"'s.

SN 36056 would make it an early 8N.

Bob,
T"ain"t no asterisks, them is little five pointed stars what"s used on serial #s. Closest thing on a keyboard is an asterisk. And he still needs an 8N or 9N prefix. Unless he spends three days looking for a serial number on an industrial engine like is in my "too-N."

Thanks Bob. I hope that is the case. I am going to get a magifying glass or something to enlarge the poorly stamped numbers.

Hey Ken N TX, I finally made out exactly what the serial # is on my 8N after removing paint. It has a star on either side of the number as follows: *8N360568*. From what I've been able to figure out on this site, it is a 1951 model. Do you agreee with my assessment? It starts right up and runs pretty darn good, but some smoke from exhaust and the transmission/hydraulic fluid is milky and looks like bad butterscotch pudding.
