stuck clutch!

Went out to start the 2N yesterday. She started up after a couple of months idle but wouldn't go into gear. The clutch is stuck! What is the best method of unsticking it? I thought of maybe hooking on to it with one of the other tractors and giving it a tug with the clutch depressed, however, that takes two people. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have that problem on my 8N it now sits with a cement block on the clutch pedel all the time. One thing you might try but its not real good for them, Start the engine and drop your idle way down and then if your lucky you can pop it in to one of thge gears first would be best and drive it around with the clutch pedel down and hit the brakes on and off. Most of the time if you do that it will brake loose but it also may take 30 minutes or more to do so. Then after it brakes loose keep the pedel blocked down when you aren't using it. You could also put it in gear and use a screw drive on the starter switch and get it to start in gear and drive it. becareful if you do start it that way and make sure your on the seat when you do so.

Well perhaps that's what's wrong with mine then and not the clutch on it's way out! Can you be running after several weeks sittin idle then when your doing a job stop engage the clutch to put in rev pull out of 1st into rev ya back up to what equipment ya gonna hook up stop engage the clutch and put it in neutral and turn on PTO let down the lift engage the clutch to turn off the PTO. Get off the beast hook something to the boom. Get back on engage the clutch to turn on PTO or try to but get grrrrr r and same with puttin her in gear.

A clutch that won"t disengage isn"t your usual worn clutch. A worn clutch will slip. If it isn"t slipping but it won"t disengage and you have no more adjustment you should look hard at a couple things.
One is the bushing on the shaft out the right side of the transmission. The shaft is the one rotated when you push the pedal that goes clear through the transmission. Guys replace a clutch and overlook that bronze bushing. If that thin bushing is worn away then the shaft has been ignored.
Other thing is on that same shaft inside the transmission where the fork is pinned. The pin can be buggered up and the hole through the shaft wobbled out. That means the shaft slips in the fork and the throwout bearing doesn"t move enough to fully disengage the clutch from the pressure plate. Guy can change a clutch, replace the throwout bearing, and still not catch any of this without looking for it. You pretty much have to remove the fork from the shaft and check the pin and hole. I suppose a guy can put the fork in a vice and then wrench the shaft looking for slop. I caught it only after I got a tip from donb. ( Good, experienced people there.)
FO-4 doesn"t say anything about the bushing or shaft in the clutch overhaul paragraphs. I lost a full 3/4" of throwout bearing travel and there is no way to make that up in the adjustment.

Which way do you turn the rod to adjust up or down? Pic of mine in photos parts & pieces 52 8N clutch adjuster. Mines pretty close to the top of the threads.

I never can remember. Push on the clutch see which way it travels is what I do. If I want to make it travel more I adjust it longer until it"s right or I run out of adjust.
I run out of adjust then I"m hard-headed enough to try it the other way until I convince myself it isn"t going to work that way either, or I get it the way I want it, one.
What I do know is if I get it adjusted to travel as far as it can and it still grinds some and won"t fully disengage it isn"t a worn clutch doing that. A worn clutch will slip. I guess you shell out a throwout bearing it won"t disengage but I believe that"s has some noise and you can tell by looking at and messing with the bearing.

Nope no noise just wont go in gear. Starts fine since I have it in Neutral. I press the clutch hit the button and varoom off she goes. I was able to get my job done by coaxing it into 4th with the clutch pushed in with only a slight grind but put the tractor to bed and it's been to rainy to work on it thus far.

When you get around to working on it you pay attention to that shaft, fork & pin, and bushing see if that isn"t what you need to rebuild to make the clutch work right.
Good luck with it.

Block the clutch down with a small block of wood (Or tie it down). Put in 1st gear and get behind the back tire and rock the tractor forward and backward as hard as you can. It should pop loose.
(I had my wife on one rear tire and myself on the other and the clutch poped loose after one minute of hard rocking.) I always block the cluth down now if the tractor is going to sit for more than a week or two. Good Luck

But make sure if you try to rock-it-to-break-it-loose.....that the dang thing's IGNITION is turned OFF! Or you may find yourself flattened with the non-skid treadmarks of ag tires on you...or you'll be running trying to leap up on it to stop it without getting run over. :{

A guy can block the pedal down and give it some time to unstuck. From there on out he might block that pedal when he parks the tractor.
