Hello Guys I am new to the Ford tractors, I am trying to help a friend get a Ford 2N 9N 8N going I dont know which one it is but it is one of those 3. Anyway I need to know if these tractors are Positive or negative ground. Were any of the later 8Ns Negative ground? Thank You For Your Help!

Generally speaking, the tractors with the red chassis and white sheet metal are 8N, and the all grey are either 9N or 2N. 9n and 2N tractors had a 3 speed transmission and the 8n has 4 forward speeds and reverse. Give us the serial number and we can identify for you. We can most likely help you troubleshoot the problems and get it running. ---Rob

Sorry I Did not Know they were available in 12 Volt. This is an all original tractor and it is 6 Volts. Thank You For the reply

They WERE NOT originally available in 12 Volt, although many old tractors have been converted to 12 Volts in later years.

Not all 6 volters are positive ground I changed mine to negitive ground 20+ years ago, and now changed it to a 6 volt alternator.
