Is a 7' box blade too big for a 8N? There is a used one nearby.

are ya sure its a 7' box????
thats a big box!!!
i use my 5 1/2' and my 6' all the time and my 6' is just a little big,, it'll pull it but not with a BIG box of gravel
and if it has ripper teeth
you'll wanna drop it slow or it'll be like hitting a tree dead on,, they'll dig and you'll go over the hood

Here is a picture of my 6' "HEAVY" boxblade that my dad built. It is plenty for my 8N. I do like the fact that it is wider than the wheel base. It was patterned after the IMCO brand blade, but he built it extra heavy. You could maybe get by with 7', but it would probably be pushing the N's power limit. Catagory 1 simply is the 3/4" lift pin size equipment.

Thanks, he built this in the late 60s,early 70s. He graded and seeded lawns for several contractors in the area and wanted a blade wide enough to skin up against foundations. That would eliminate a lot of hand shoveling. He built this so it would be wider than his 800 series tractors and have one more ripper tooth in it than the IMCO. That old man was a tractor driver deluxe, and I miss him dearly. He kept me busy thinking up welding projects for him. He built me a three point carrier, a boom pole, a harrow drag and a three point two roll barb wire
unwinder with fence stretching hooks attached. We also modified the tractor bumpers to attach tow bars for short transport.

After telling me how old the stuff is it sure earned the rights to go with tractors that last 60 years.Quality is one thing you DON'T see anymore!! Also thanks for the barbed wire Idea. I've sure worn out alot of gloves unrolling it with a bar by hand.

The wire unwinder is made like a upside down T with three different heighth places to hook a fence stretcher. The barb wire rolls are held tight with disc blades slid over the mandrel, holding the wire from free spooling. The disc blades have a collar and capscrew to hold it against the wire roll. When you stop the tractor, the wire stops unrolling. It works very well. Roll the wire out, set the tractor brakes and you have an instant place to stretch from.

Which brings up a newbie question. I am wanting a box blade and a middle buster for light trenching. What do I look for to tell if it is a Cat 1? I get the 3 pt part.

Billy,

You want to match the size of the pins and the holes. The hole size on the top link should match the implement, and the pin size on the implement should match the 3 point hitch. If memory serves me correctly, they are 3/4" holes and pins.
