This seat is on the 53 NAA I recently bought. Based on the info I find on this discussion group I assume it is a Rest-o-Ride. Is that correct? The shock inside the spring is frozen in the extended position. That makes the seat pitch forward and it is uncomfortable. Are parts available for this seat?

That looks like the knoedler seat on my
Cockshutt. Go to the Oliver Cockshutt forum and look for a post by Phil Heisey, his Email is usually
open, and I think he has the shock for that seat.
Maybe same as Cockshutt maybe not . Have some dimensions ready, and give him a call.

If it were me I would try find a snowmobile shock to fit. There are so many different sizes that one is bound to work. Try www.denniskirk.com. The Parts Unlimited hydraulic shocks are around $25.00 each.

Thanks much for the info. Does anyone want to trade for an original stock seat and spring?

Russ,

Too late now! I decided to tear the thing apart and remove the shock as Dell suggested. In the process I completely took it apart and started rebuilding. I can't trade in its current condition and I may not want to trade if I get it overhauled. The seat has four bearing in it that I will have to replace. I am also going to replace some "bolts" that the seat pivots on. That will require some minor machining.

I live in Wellington. It is near Gardnerville (30 miles), which is near Carson City (45 miles), which is near Reno (75 miles).

Where are you in So Cal?

I've got a Knoedler like that on my N. I removed the shock some years ago and it works just fine with the spring alone. Not too much bouncey-bouncey, but some cushion for the big jolts. Steve

That looks like a Knoedler seat to me. That is what I have on my 8N and I am thinking about ways to modify it as I am 6'2" and I feel like a clown on a tricycle on my tractor sometimes. Perhaps you find that the legroom is rather lacking with that seat.

Paul,
I'm 6'3", 230 lbs and found the original seat on my 8N sadly lacking. I purchased a suspension seat at Farm King for less than a hundred bucks. The bottom bracket slots lined up fine with the holes for the orginal seat on the tractor. The seat now sets enough higher that I have leg room and the suspension is weight adustable up to 265 pounds

Charlie..... ...remove yer shockey, yer seat will bounce more but so what? I don't believe ennyone has figgered out a replacement shock for these dealer installed seats. But you can bring yer shockey into a good full service autoparts place and see iff'n they can find sumptin that'll fit. Yer NAA buttbuckett was suppended by a simple flat "U" spring and NO shockey..... ....Dell
