I tuned up my 8n last summer and bush hogged about 3 acres. I used Champion H12 plugs. Tractor was running fine when I parked it over the winter. When I started it this spring it was missing bad and acted like it was running rich. I changed plugs and put in a set of Autolite 437's. After a few minutes of running it stopped missing and ran perfect. Anybody had similar experience using Champion plugs?

Over the years I've seen not too old Champions go bad, to the point I won't use Champions in anything. I use either Autolite or Motorcraft in my tractors (not to say that other brands are not good too).

What you might try is buying one of those spark plug cleaners that swirls grit around the plug to clean it. They run on compressed air. My experience is that plugs tend to foul up sooner today, most likely because tractors are not used hard enough to heat them up good and keep them clean. I've cleaned them up and stuck them back in and had good luck after a tractor starts missing.

I'm going out of a limb on this one. Lets see, you stated you changed plugs and after a few minutes of running with the new plugs it stopped missing. Hmmm, my guess you can put your old plugs back in and they just may run fine again.

You can clean up the H12's by burning them clean with a propane torch and try em again. Might have just been fouled for any number of reasons, or it could have been your tractor just waking up, as you said it ran a while on the new plugs before it started to run right. I'm with Dell, don't worry about it, use it.

Roger..... ...well, AutoLite AL-437 are supposed to be the "equivalent" of Champion H-12. Hard tellin' why yer 10hrs old H-12's died over the winter. You should be pleased that you gotter fixxed for $10 change of sparkies. Now go gittsumm seat time..... ...Dell
