My 8n and me dug out a 25 X 20 X 4 hole for a pond. I have read about other ponds that n owners have dug, and would like some "if I can do it again I would?" advice, before I go further. And the dirt is HARD clay. Will I need a liner or not? It will be an ornamental pond with some fish. Thanks for the input. Rick T

Put in a liner for that size of pond. It solves several problems later i.e. leaking, weeds, etc...

I had a pond like this ,,it is what we call a sky pond,, no source of water.. if this is true line it . If you have a source of water (constant, like a spring )it will be ok as is. Just smooth it out and try to pack it hard.

8N and a Ford slip scoop. It took 5 hours and a little hurt back. I used a single bottom plow to "loosen" the earth first then had to again to loosen the clay. I want to post a pic but cannot seem to. I did get one posted on the community album under pond.
Thanks for all the replies thus far.
Rick T.

If you didn't hit any gravel in the clay you will probably be ok with out a liner. Drive your tractor in and out of it a little to pack it down and add water and see what happens. If you find you have a small leak get a few ducks and they will slowly seal it
