I have been looking into a 8n,when the tractor is started the oil pressure is above 50,and after running a good while it drops to 20...Is this right or am I looking at repair bills right away if I purchase this tractor?

My 52 8N stays at 40-50 but I use 30w. I've read that those that use 10W30, the pressure drops when oil gets hot.

Cold oil is thicker and higher pressure, warm oil is thinner and lower pressure...

Mine is 50 at start up and 15-20 when warm. From what I gather (archives) this is acceptable.

Sounds good to me - and normal.

Mine starts out ~40 cold and drops to ~10 when good and hot. I wish it was 20 - but 10 has been working fine for 2 years now.

SBM: You don't want this or any other Ford tractor. They will lure you and tempt you. You will dream of them at night. You will work on them all day. Get bruises and strains yanking wrenches in salvage yards, and get sunburn working on them in your own yard. If you get one, you will want two. If you have two, you will want four. A Ford tractor will change your life forever. Mike-Iowa

Is it 20 at idle or at full throttle?

My '46 2N runs between 30 and 40 with throttle above 1/2.

while you are checking look for play in the steering and in the rear hubs on the axels--also make sure the hubs haven't been welded. also try the hydralic lift to make sure it lifts a man on the arms and stays up at least a few minutes with the power off

any of those is a five hundred dollar add on to the budget
