I have two original matching Hubs that I belive came off of a 2N but the part # is BUDD9N1106A3
and one has a date on it 2-6-46 and the other is 2-8-46. What is the BUDD on the part # and I would belive they came off a 1946 or 1947 ? I am going to sell them and I want them to be described properly because they are like new and I would want them to get there full glory.and also they both have two little flat bumps Rectangle in shape and about an inch long that stick up on each side of the center close to were the rim sets and the other hubs I have do not, any idea why? Thanks!!

You have described 2N hubs. The two bosses are stricly identifying features. Ford found that steel wheels were breaking hubs, so you will find the reinforced design has not only the idenifying bosses, but also five ribs vs. three.

Hubs, drums, discs, etc are generally something a manufacturer farms out to a supplier. Budd is a huge supplier of wheels in the truck industry, along with other parts. These could be original, in fact, most likely are.

I have a '70 mustang. I've owned it since it had 19,000 miles on it. The original brakes are all marked KH (Kelsey-Hayes) except for one rear brake, on which all parts are marked Wagner-Lockheed (drums, backing plates, cylinders) I know all parts were original when I acquired the car in '71, the factory simply mixed the parts (all identical and interchangeable) in production.

ThyssenKrupp Budd Company is located in Troy Michigan and they make all types of castings and automotive parts. They were formaly known as Budd Wheel Company in Detroit Michigan.

Rough:
Not sure if this will help or confuse the issue. Today I replaced a set of rear brake drums (original) on a 1990 Dodge 3/4 ton 4WD. Those drums too had a BUDD stamp on them. My guess is that your N and my Dodge are not the only drums w/ that mark. Best guess would be some type of manufacture mark or a quality control mark. Someone smarter than me will fill us in. Good question!

Your post made me curious. A quick Google search shows a BUDD company out of MI which makes products (drums and discs) for the auto industry. Makes sense for my Dodge. Not sure how early they started but they must have made your hubs. HTH!

Makes me wonder if some of the work was contracted out by ford or Like Jeb said they were early original aftermarket?

I have also noticed the two rectangular bosses on the hubs. My only guess is a possible casting pour location or vent hole? As for the "BUDD" part, i have no idea. Possibly original replacement parts offered by another company?

Jeb
