My 1943 2n had not run in over 10 years. Put MM oil in sparkplug holes, let it sit for two days. Did compression test, NOTHING. Pulled head, 3 stuck valves, and I think stuck rings. One sleeve came up with the piston, is this an indication of something. HELP, I don't understand sleeves.

if ya pulled a sleeve up, that would be a good sign to rebuild her cuz they don't always come up that easy!!!!! !
i'll say the rings are definately stuck to the cylinder...
i have a question though
""how did ya pull a compression test with the rings stuck to the cylider that tight,, and is yer starter still in good shape???
not trying to be smart!!!
don;t take it wrong..

Sounds like rings aren"t stuck fast. Just they have more friction on the inside of the sleeve than the sleeve has on the bore. Less there"s other indication of needing overhaul, I"d loctite the sleeve and see what else goes to h___ in a handbasket.

Hooker, other 3 pistons move up and down and the sleeves stay put. it is just one sleeve that came up. The starter works fine. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Ricky..... ..while the sleeves are supposted to be an "interferance fitt", sometimes that fitt isn't interfeared. And yer playin' around crankin' the engine so you can watch the valves go up and down, the loose sleeve which was NO LONGER held down by the cylinderhead, decided to move with the tight piston rings. Vola' upp'n'down sleeve.

Iff'n yer compression test was acceptable/satisfactory (Ford specs: 90psi) then I'd probably use some sleeve/stud puckey from the autoparts store and make certain that the sleeve was ABSOLUTELY FLUSH SEATED before the puckey got hard. You don't haffta puckey the entire lenght of the sleeve, just the top 1/2" or so. Understand? ..... ...respectfully, Dell
