My 47 8N (47 by serial number)was leaking oil into the brake drum. I took purchased parts and was told there is no such thing as an 47 8N.
So they gave me all the seals for a 48. The IT F0-4 manual says that early 8Ns dont have a inner oil seal and I did not find one when I took it apart. Does anyone know for sure?
Should I be using the inner seal or not.
I am not even sure the trumpet is made for it.

Soundguy is correct on all counts, and I can tell you 100% that you can have a 47 8n because I have a 47 8N single rear seal setup as well.

There certaintly were some 8n's produced in 47 for the model/year 48.

The early 8n's did not use an inner seal. much like the 9n/2n.. they only had one seal.. and were prone to leaky axles/oil brake drums.

Later 8n's did use an inner and an outter seal. This of course meant different axle trumpets and axles as they had to be matched nd machined for the oil seal.

If you do indeed have a 47.. you are stuck with 1 axle seal per side.. unless you change axles and trumpets to a later model.. etc.
