The 8N was not touched. I know that would be the major concern. I live 137 miles from my piece of heaven to make a living. Got a call today from the sheriff that my place was burglarized. Two low-lifes, both about 20y/o. Both arrested, turns out someone saw them riding around with all my stuff in their car. I should get it all back. Got into an outbuilding and took shovels, chainsaw, powerwasher, manual post hole diggers, electrical rolls of wire, and misc. other items. Not a big loss dollar wise. Thank God they didn't get into the house. Looking for a remote system where I can view property from my permanant residence. I can't permantly live there for another 5-6 years. I know I can't stop them, but would like to see them arrested. Have googled remote security systems but the options are mind boggling. Anyone have a basic knowledge of components needed to view a location via computer remotely. Do not have a computer or internet service at remote location.People who steal just burn me up. Had my suburban stolen two years ago. Dammed tired of scum taking my stuff.

I bought some concealed digital cameras attached to motion detectors. They can take up to a thousand pictures each depending on the size of the memory stick used. Mine are concealed in smoke detector and a wall clock, when ever there is motion in front of them they start taking pictures stop when the motion is gone. Can view, download and print them on the PC. Have had pictures taken over several days at different times since it day and time stamps them.

Turn them on and off with a keychain button. Found out my neighbor was borrowing tools when I was gone. Thought I was having a senior moment. Guess he figured out where the spare key was hid. Wish he would have asked or at least mentioned he borrowed them. Now everytime something comes up missing I figured he either stole it or wasn"t finished using it yet. I haven"t said anything yet but did move the key.

Couple places sell them on the internet, same product but prices vary alot so shop around.

Good luck, I been robbed twice and the cops just said unless someone saw them leaving the house with the stuff as far as they were concerned it was an insurance issue.

ratface. Check locally for someone in the business of checking seasonaly property. Most localities have someone in the area that does this for a rather small fee. Sorry about your lose. We experienced the same thing except they got into the camp building and ramsacked it to the tune of almost $15,000 in repairs and stolen stuff. We pressured the Co. District Attorney to prosecute and all four ended up in jail for 1-2 and served their time. Best thing is make sure you have good insurance and a good agency. Good luck. Ron

ratface sorry about your adventure ,these lowlifes are all over though and the law is a joke, i know from personal experience, anyway if you want something simple to install and use ,a company called Phonetics,Inc. they are at 901 Tryens Road Aston Pa 19014,they make a unit called a Sensaphone Model 1104,i use it for a summer house to monitor the tempreture as i had broken pipes in the past ,anyway it monitors sound ,the ac ,high and low temps ,it has a listen in capability where you can dial the house and listen to any noise that shouldnt be there you can also wire alarm contacts off it for doors and windows and it will call you if something happens ,ive used one for years and it saved me many ways, they probably got newer ones now ,sorry this is so long
Good Luck
Danny

I can feel for you. Tazewell County Va., the one I live in, just made the March 28 issue of Time magazine. Didn't paint a flattering picture but the facts were true about crime and drugs. Sometimes the truth hurts! Bad thing is, the local jails are so full and cost so high that unless you commit a violent crime you get probation. Then they wonder why people become vigilantes. What other choice do you have?

You ever think about a remote camera set up at premises with a VCR that turns on with motion detector? Then have a security system wired to automatically call your home or pager in case of a break-in, easily done with sensors etc. I doubt you have time to watch the internet cam 24/7 anyway.

What in the heck are people thinking, or not! I too am looking into a solution. My place sits well of the road, and none of the neighbors can see what is taking place up there. I am looking at the X10 remote system with a 4 camera pack. May not be perfect, but I think that just the fact the cameras are on, and recording at a different location would make most theives leave. The cams will be run through the net, and I have a dedicated "old" computer with a large hard drive that will do the trick to record. A good old computer can be had for about a hundred bucks, and I think the whole X10 system will be about 2-300 more. Well worth it to me. Glad they caught them - my worst fear is that I get there, and my 8N is gone along with all my tools!

John, put the computer in a big safe or the crooks just might steal that too! Some of these degenerates are smart.

Rat,

try www.x10.com, the have a system called active home pro and it has a plugin called iwitness that will send remote picture via the internet.

I have the basic system and although it is buggy, it does seem to work.

Sorry to hear that. I wish they still hung theives!

My place has been broken into once. The hit a vehicle in my driveway, and stole some PA equipment out of it. They hit about 5 other people int he neighborhood that evening too.

Other than a webcam setup over the internet.. not much else you can do for a video link. A leased line would work.. but then.. that's going to be nearly the same setup as a webcam.. etc.

Do you have an option of sending a letter to the prosecutor or the judge to let them know how strongly you feel about those low-lifes sentencing?

Good luck.

I can relate. Have been hit three times in two years. Meth heads! After having tractors, implements, furniture, antiques, and family heirlooms taken; I finally found someone to live in the house all of the time. Makes things a little different when I want to use my place, but hey, I know that everything will at least be there once I get down there. My place is 235 miles from my home. Just hope the local prosecutor doesn't cut them a deal and put them back on the street. They did that to one of my neighbors and they burned down his place because he was the one who caught him. The thieves are now back in jail on arson charges, but my neighbor is without a house and barn. Best of luck!

appreciate all the response. sad that it happens all too often. The X10 system seems to keep popping up on my searches. Now I'm thinking if the VCR or computer doing the recording gets stolen the whole system is defeated. They do make stand alone camera units. I can't get there to next weekend. I plan to appear in court to voice my concerns. funny thing is Ilive in the big city and thought I was getting away from this scum. In the last two years I have had a car stolen, one broken into and now this.

Rural means problems often anymore. In my area, the thieves cruise the lonely backroads and hit homes while the owners are away at work. Most people here have to make a living an hour or so away and few are home all the time. The area is quite wooded and neighbors can't always be trusted. Actually some of them are the ones doing the robbing!
