I have enough of a leak at my governor to prompt me to ensure it's tightened. Can I just losen the two bolt and then tighten? The guy before me sealed it with what looks like silicon caulk.I'm guessing it's warped- according to other posts- but I'd like to be sure.

***if ya gotta compressor and die grinder getta 3M ROLOC se counditioning disc and go over the surface of gov.
***make ya a 1/8" cork gasket
either idea would work and in some cases both have to be used to get the leak to stop

8n, with the application of silicon to stop a leak it tells me it has already been "grunt" tightened and is most likely worped.I've heard of placing 2 gaskets to make the seal but it is still worped and "grunt" tightening" probably will not help. Not a big job to remove it and take apart. Place the casing on a smooth surface (glass is great)with a peice of 400 grit paper and sand (a little)to true it up. My 2 cents

It's probably leaking because it's over torqued and the housing is bent at the bolt holes so that the rest of the housing is not pressing on the gasket. If you want to fix it, remove the governor, sand it out w/ some sandpaper & check it w/ a metal rule to insure it is flat. Put it back w/ a good gasket sealer & new gasket. Remember, short bolt on top or you will learn all about timing gear replacement.
