I was at my local TSC and ask the MGR. to help me with an oil filter for my 8n. He brought me a fram c3p. It was too tall and I couldn't get the cover back on snug. What is a cross ref. number or part no. for the oil filter other than the FNH part number as today is Saturday and they wont be open tommorow. I could go back to TSC or to WalMart. Thanks Rick T.

If it's indeed a C3P, it should work. Sometimes, it takes a little pressure to get it down in the canister. And sometimes, the oil line fitting that comes in from the side near the bottom can be in a little too far and cause the fileter to be difficult to seat.

I buy mine for an 8N at Tractor Supply and I buy the filter beside the C3P which is just the C3. It works in mine. And yes the book there shows the C3P but it is like you said too tall. Maybe you can take it back and swap it out.

Check the cover of the oil canister for a rubber seal; it should match the one that came with the new filter. Peel out the old one and replace it with the new one. The new filter should fit fine.

I've used fram c3, c3p, Nh filters.. don barkelys' filters, and even napa 1010 filter all with no problems in my 8n and 2n. Check your oil canister for debris in the bottom of it.. perhaps an old rubber seal is at the bottom?

Putting it in right side up?

Is this rubber washer part No. 6746 in the master parts catalog, part of the canister or an old filter? It is still in the canister along with the spacer. Will it hurt to take it out? Also is it normal to have to loosen the canister to install the filter? With the FNH filter i have never had to, but it was tight fitting it into the canister. Thanks again for all the replies on a "simple" topic.

The spacer yes.. if you hve extra rubber parts in there. I'd say it cae off a filter. I've seen some filters with no rubber parts.. just metal to metal.. and then I've seen ones with rubebr inserts.. etc.

Sometimes just loosening the bolts on the bracket ( don't have to remove them) gives you the 'jiggle factor' to get a cantankerous filter out.

Rick, I use Baldwin # P-40, works great, like the others, check the filter, and spring.

Maybe it got switched in the box. I'd take it back and compare it to other C3ps.

The filter itself is stamped c3p. Do you guys suppose the rubber gasket in the canister should be removed? It is shown in the parts catalog. part No. 6746. Also part no. 66735 a spacer, is in the canister. Please advise. Thanks Rick T.

Fram C3P is the correct filer for an 8N. Check the bottom of the filter canister for an obstruction or mybe you just need to push down harder.

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't get the filter in without removing the canister bolts and tipping it out some. I did not have to do that with the FNH filter. Also it looks a 1/4 inch or so taller.
Thanks Rick T.
