How many different proofmeters were used on the 8N? The one that I have often seen for sale looks too large. I will check the cable first before I buy one. I have an early model with the meter mounted in the lower left of the dash. I found it curious that Ford didn't mount it on the governor side.

That's just one of my upcoming little projects. My tractor is a really good running little guy and I am fixing little annoyances one at a time. It sure is nice to have working brakes for the first time. So far I have been impressed by how easy it is to work on, especially with help from all of you guys.

I figure that the grass will be long enough to get it's first cutting for the year within the week and I am sure looking forward to getting some regular tractor time in again. I always dreaded any kind of mowing until I bought the N. The best time is in the summer when all the barn swallows are doing acrobatics around me to get all the insects that I stir up with my mower. I consider them my pets and they remind me of little F-86 Sabre jets.

By the way, I just had my 40th yesterday. I guess I am getting to be an old man. ;-)

Hey Paul, never seen a proofmeter on the left side of an early 8n. Can you post a picture? First time the barn swallows started dive bombing me I thought I had done something they didnt like. Then the old farmer across the road says "Ya dumb azz yer stirrin up the bugs and the're lovin ya fer it". I learn something new every day out here in the country. By the way

Only one Proofmeter on the 8N, early 1950 thru 1952 models. Sounds like yours may be an hour meter that was a Ferguson-Sherman accessory. No idea where you could find parts, surely rare by now.

I've never seen an N w/ a proofmeter on the lower left of the dash; they came w/ the side mount distributor (after SN 263XXX) and were on the same side as the governor (the right side, sitting on the tractor). I think you have a home-grown proofmeter set-up! And, you ain't old; I'm older than the three N's on the place!
