If I remove the right side inspection cover,
do I need a new gasket to reinstall it.
Or should I just use RTV sealant.

Thanks.

I agree. There is no oil pooling on the mating surfaces.. If you remove it and the gasket is good.. stick it back on.. if there are imperfections.. hit it with your favorite puckey (rtv) and go. If you ever do order parts for it and work on the hyds again.. you can order the 30 cent gasket and install it during other repairs...

You could even pull the cover and draw one on paper as a template.. that way if you pull the cover off alot.. you can just make them out of thick paper.. thin cardboard.. etc.

If you do make or buy them.. don't pucky them.. that way they will come off easier next time.. just clean the mating surfaces with a razor real well.

pooh, being a non-pressurized area, all that is required is 2 clean surfaces and a sound gasket. if the one removed was not damaged then reuse it - no sealer required here.

Pooh..... ...unless you muck-up the 6" roundplate gasket, I reuse them. Sometimes inexperieced shadetree mechanics puckey every gasket with stick'um. Stick'em makes up the sins of slopy workmanship and prevents profit robbing fixx'em free call-backs. Me? I don't use puckey..... ..Dell

I'm not sure what puckey is but I use that blue gasket stuff.

I thought pucky was the RTV stuff.

I will try to save the old gasket if I remove the cover.

Thanks.

I reused my gasket. It was slightly torn in a couple of places so I used a skim coat of black RTV. Helps to seal the bolt threads also. I prefer the black over the blue I have even emergency repaired rusty gas lines to get home with the black.
