Leaking carb.....

I did a search on this subject. Is the most likely cause of gas dripping from the carburetor a bad float? Haven't found the source yet but the drips are from the bottom of the carb and from the air intake hose. The hose connection looks fairly soaked with gas. It's pretty wet looking. Gas shutoff by glass bowl is stuck and I didn't want to force it. I never put more than a few cups of gas in it at a time and I use most of that running it so I don't lose much gas and catch what I lose in a pan. Trying to figure out where to start with this thing but it would help if I could fill the tank with gas. Don't care to have a fire either.

If you rebuid the carb. and the leaking continues, there is a possibility that the carb bowl may be cracked. I had one that was and the only real cure in that case is replacement. If it's an aluminum carb, it may be a porus casting. Just other possibilities.

One of the most common causes is over use of the choke. James

Shorty..... ....quitt LOLLY-GAGGIN'ROUND and put in a NEW under the fueltank valve. ($20, cheap) Consider the consequence of NOT being able to turn yer gravityfed fueltank OFF, its called HYDRAULIC-LOCK and can break piston rods. Besides your 3rd fuelline filter is setting inside yer fueltank and has probably melted.

As to why your carb mouth is leaking, I'm thinkin' FLOAT VALVE. Float level, then maybe float pivotpin, then maybe a non-floatin'float..... ..Dell

The carburetor inlet valve (needle and seat) is operated by the float, so any dirt in the inlet valve, wear or damage to the inlet valve, etc. will cause the carburetor to "run over".

The float may be leaky, so it fills with gas and is no longer a "float", or it may be out of adjustment, or bent so it binds in it's hinge, or contacts the inside wall of the float bowl and sticks ("hangs up").

It's time to remove the carb, disassemble it, and take a look at the float and inlet valve.
