Good Morning to everyone, I have a 9N, which I am working on, but have a question that perhaps someone out there has a solution to. When I am working on the engine and need to have it running to check varios things out, but do not have the hood on it, how do I get a way to keep fuel running to the carb? The gas tank, as you all know, is attached to the hood, and when I take the hood off, along with it comes the gas tank. Do you use a squirt bottle or something smiular? Thanks in advance for your reply . BTW, I am Ron from South Texas. I am mostly a lurker.

I use a piece of fish aquarium hose and a cut off piece of old fuel line tubing. I screw the stub of the fuel line tubing into the carb, slip the aquarium hose over that, place a 1 gallon fuel canister up higher than the carb and stick the aquarium hose into it, cover the big opening on the fuel canister with my hand to kinda seal it off and blow into the vent to "force" the gas into the aquarium hose and let gravity take it from there. The gas will keep flowing into the carb just like the tank was attached.

Good luck,
Dan

Thanks for ALL of your replies. I did in fact receive quite a few Good replies and will be sure to use them. Funny I didn't think of one of them before asking you all. Thanks again and have a Happy Thursday. BTW, I am just outside the city limits South of San Antonio.

Easiest way that I have discovered is to use a 1-3 gallon weed sprayer. Put one or two quarts of gas in it, connect the rubber hose to the fuel line with a hose clamp, pump it a few times (not too much pressure), and you're ready to go.

I use a piece of 2" PVC pipe and add a fuel cut off valve to one of the end caps. Install a screw in cap on the utter end and a hanger so I kin give the tractor its I.V.

Ditto what roger said. That's the main 'aux tank' that most people use for work sans the hood. Lawnmower gas tank with a temporary cobbled up fuel line.

You could use a lawn mower gas tank
supported somewhere above the engine.

I"ve always hated to throw things away that came in large quantities and looked useful. (Used ammo primer cups, etc.) Try using an ordinary plastic quart oil bottle from the last oil change you performed. Cut a hole in the cap, stick a clear, pvc tubing into it, wire it to the tractor with a coat-hangar above the carb somewhere, slip the open end of the tubing over the carb inlet fitting (or over a short piece of copper tubing flared to fit the fitting), give the plastic bottle a squeeze to get it flowing...and it"ll continue to run via siphon-action. Any un-drained motor oil will lube the valves and when you"re done...throw it all away. Cost: Less than 10-cents for the pvc tubing at Home Depot, etc. (Unfortunately, about 50-cents for a quart of gasoline!) :{
