But I did pull the old points and cleaned them up and used my starter tank, a little quart fuel tank that I use for starting engines when the big tank is off. Turned over a couple times and it fired right up. I'll get the right points tomorrow and then put the rad back on and fuel tank hood etc and see how it does.

The majority of ignition points are replaced and are not worn out. I had an after school and then full time job from 1965 to 1968 until I got drafted into the ARMY. The company remanufactured ignition points. We bought old replaced points from local garages and completely reworked them and sold them nation wide. Some sets we just ground and polished the tunsten, others we brazed or riveted on new. We sent some out to be replated others we tumbled in ground up corncobb to polish. Our biggest seller was the GM V-8 set with the ajustable allen screw. I won't buy points to this day unless my old set is worn out. I grind them with a die grinder with a cutting disc. Put a slight radius on the tungsten and make sure the contacts line up. Clean them with brake clean when done. Too many people don't know points must be as clean as possible, even clean your feeler gauge before use. tim

Tim..... ...you are exactly right ...but... I ain't gonnna pay $50 shop rate for a mechanic to polish my points. And the shop is gonnna insist the mechanic replace the $5 points and charge shoprate 'cuz enny callback is the NEW POINTS FAULT and the customer is satisfied..... .....Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
