Can Oil Pressure Be Too High?

In November 2000 I bought a '51 8N with only 582 hours on it! Sounds incredible, but true. Still has original tires which look new. It's been a cold winter in upstate NY; today it is 37. I started it and ran it at idle for 2 hours. upon start-up the oil pressure read 50lb. After 1 hour it read 47lb. I don't think there is a thermostat installed since the "pull" or "winter fan" was blowing cold air back at me! I'm not sure that the tractor ever warmed-up. Is the oil pressure too high? Is there likely a blockage in the oil lines? Would installing a thermostat remedy the problem? Or, is there a problem at all? I know that high is better than low, but is too high also a problem? At present there is 10W30 in the crankcase. The original owner told me he used 30 weight Penzoil HD for the past 20 years so I thought it would be OK to use HD 10W30. As always, all replys greatly appreciated!

Arthur

Sounds like a terrific tractor, my opinion " don't
fix anything that is not broken" , what I've found
some motors need to be worked to warm -up.

Arthur I think your oil presser is ok I have a ford 4000 and It runes about 70lb if you have only 582hour on it I would use 10w-30 Mobile 1 synthetic on it and use there filter it will cost more but mine works hard
