I can't get the bowl gasket to stop leaking. is it a good idea to doubleup on that gasket? If it is does this change the float level? TIA.

Zane has a trick, check the archives for lapping a carb or lapping carb halves. Has something to do with sandpaper on a piece of glass for a flat, level surface. HTH....don t. ....

On my 9n the carb gasket is leaking between the bowl and carb, where can I get a gasket for that?

Roger

Most any Ford/NH dealer or NAPA parts store will ne your best bet, otherwise the shipping will cost more than the part..

At least one half of the carb can be stripped and sanded on a perfectly flat surface on sandpaper..Should not have to double the gaskets. I'd be surprised if double gaskets would seal right..

Rusty..... ...assuming you're talking about the carb bowl and not the sediment bowl. One bowl gasket should seal your carb. If if doesn't, perhaps both halves of your carb are not flat and will need to be flattened. Also gasoline seems to spread out in all directions. Are you sure it is leaking at the gasket and not at the elbow?

Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply. yes the carb. sorry should have said that. Yes it is the floatbowl gasket. I thought at first it was the elbow & even thought it was from the adj. screws,But cleaned it all up good & put in new gasket & when I turn on the gas I can watch it spread from the gasket. Been useing this same carb for 20 years now no serious problems.
The only diff. is I'm now running a vertical exhaust. Hard to believe that exhaust would heat the carb up enough to warp it. I'll check the surfaces again. thanks again.

Wow.. I imagine the flaot should be shutting the gas off before it gets tot he gasket surface.. yer float stuck/ heavy? dirty seat?

On my Old zenith carb for my CUB, I put a smear of permatex copper on the gasket to help hold it in place while reassembling the carb.. thin mind you. almost transparent. Perhaps if it is a minor flaw, this might help. If it is warped.. that won't help..

Some of the gaskets today seem to be made of a more porous material than those of old. Heck, I think even these float bowl gaskets had asbestos in them years ago.

The newer "environmentally friendly" gaskets don't seem to seal as well.

Ive had trouble with thermostat housing gaskets that leaked thru the paper itself, wrong for the job.You may have a flooding carb.
