I had a front mount do the same thing. The brass lugs are too long inside the distributer cap and I broke 2 or 3 rotors instantly. Junk import cap.

RZ. What they are telling you below about new parts not fitting is right on. I have a front mount and the last time I installed new points I threw away the first two sets because they didn't fit correctly and the rotors had to be really forced on in order to get them all the way down. Good luck. Ron

Not to be a wise guy but did you put the dust cover back on under the dist. cap. If not it will allow the dist. cap to ride to low on the dist. Dave.

Put the old rotor and cap back on. If nothing breaks the new parts have are junk. If the old rotor breaks you have a distributor shaft problem.

I have found some of the aftermarket rotors do not fit the shaft very well. Some I have tried go on tight and don't seem to want to go down far enough without a lot of effort. If this was your problem, I suspect you would have had difficulties in seating the distributor cap. Check to be sure your cap is seating properly. And be sure you use the little spring clip that fits over the shaft above the rotor. Whenever I replace my distributor cap, I always try turning it to be sure I have the little notch in the right position. HTH

Either your rotor is not fitting down all the way on the distributor shaft, or you have mis-matched parts. Just to be sure, with the cap and rotor removed, ground the high-tension coil wire and crank the engine with the starter and watch the distributor shaft for wobble, to rule out a badly bent distributor shaft.

There have been reports of poor fitting imported ignition parts.

You might try FNH for a better quality set, or a local NAPA or similar auto parts store.

Well I have gotten all the parts from TSC and the tractor ran all winter with no problems and then all of a sudden no spark so I have since gone and replaced the rotor a third time and the old girl fired right up. So I'll just keep a spare rotor on hand and it'll probably never happen again. Thanks for all the help.
