Dolly for split tractor

Has anyone built or bought a dolly to move a split tractor? I have a 9n and a 2n with the engines removed. I was thinking it would be nice if I could hook something up to the transmission housing on castors to move these around in the garage.

Anybody done this? Any ideas?

BTW: the 2N is being parted out... I will have some parts available soon... need to find homes for the parts I don't need. Additionally, I have a complete rebuilt long block for 9/2/8n (8n to 1950) with a warranty (I think it is transferrable) available too!

Thanks in advance!
Patrick

Here is a pic of the setup Dell mentions. It works great and is easy to install. It is stable and allows you to roll around the rear half to get it out of your way.

Good luck,
Dan

I just used a nylon tow strap to bear the weight of the tranny on the drag links and it moves an rolls around just as if the engine was still attached. It is a fast safe cheap way of doing a rolling chassi. I've heard of at least one casualty doing the trailer jack thing. The jack let go and the tranny smashed on the floor...not pretty...Mine has been like this for over six months outside and no problems...My $.02....Tim

Patrick..... ....witha little cleverness on your part, you can use an outboardboat trailer jack ($50, cheap) and an "L" bracket to hold it to your tranny flange. This is now height adjustable and forms a tri-cycle style of rear tranny support..... ...Dell

Not sure what that comment means, but Mr. Baumann, who I have met several times, has built ten, count em ten 8 n tractors from stock to three with V8's and one with a turbine.

I do not quite have the experience, but have split 9N's several times, done engine rebuilds and replacements on both Ford and IH as well as some other tractors.

I enjoy reading and learning from the masters, one of which is Marv.

If you dig back into the archives of the N Newsletter, N Guru, Marv Baumann published this complete with some illustrations--you might see if you can get a back issue to show this setup.

That is how I plan on splitting mine.
Gotta a small 2x2 dolley to go under the transmission.
Will set something on the dolley to hold up the tranny.
Then just roll it all back out of the way.

Mite attach the dolley to the sway bar brackets too.
That would make sure the dolley rolls with the back wheels and I won't push the tractor off the support.
