I purchased my 8N last January with a Dearborn front snow plow on it. I can't make out the ser# even though I've scraped it down to the bare metal but it's a front dist. I replaced the rear tires and unfortunately was unable to save the rear rims.I need to replace the brakes and fluids. I find this forum very helpful and interesting. I paid $1,800 for this and think I got a really good deal.

I use this tractor at camp because the town stopped plowing the road in and I use the property all winter. I also have 40 acres of woods and would like to use the tractor for firewood. The property has an elevation change of 210'.

Is there a manufacture that makes ROLs for 8Ns or is there someplace I can get some drawings? I should be able to make one as I'm a retired steamfitter and have access to heavy wall pipe and welding equipment. Thanks for any info

I seem to remember some discussion of 8N ROPS that there remains a danger of the axle trumpet snapping when a rollover occurs and in effect rendering the ROPS ineffective unless the axle trumpet is reinforced at the point of ROPS attachment.

Anyone else remember seeing that??

Don't forget a seatbelt. Without a seatbelt, a ROPS is just another hunk of steel that will kill you in a rollover.

Any chance you could post a pic of your tractor? I was kinda hoping my 2N could push snow for me next winter and would like to use a front blade.
Have you used it and does it work good? I have a rear blade but have never used a front blade, only a loader.

I found em! Looks like a nice tractor and a good buy for the money. Can't tell how the plow works but it must be hydraulic lift? Bet to put that on my old 2N I would have to visit Zane and get a hydraulic conversion of sorts.

6N's Short, I've used it all winter and it worked really good inspite of having really worn tires. I've since changed the rear tires and added Duo grip chains. When I changed the tires I found the ballast was almost gone in the right tire. I'm expecting better traction next season.

I was plowing a seasonal road about 3/8s of a mile. I'm trying to post a photo. Hope it works>

I can post a picture or two but first I have to review some earlier post and figure out how to do it.

When I took the plow blade off you could tell it hadn't been off in years. I think that's all the tractor was used for.

ROL? You refering to a rops? Yes.. I think they are about 800 bucks.. but they are available.

Knowing your engine is front mount is just about all you need to know, for tune up parts.. anyway. There is a chance that the chassie is not the same age as the engine.. but there is little difference. Late 52 had a different reverse gear and tranny casting.. shifter is different on later units, but interchanges. Axle seals and axles / trumpets are different from early models to late models. Breaks wil be the same...

For fluids.. use a 30w oil.. or oil to suit your temps and oil pressure. perhaps a heavy multi weight.. like a 15/40 or 20/50. Some get away with 10/30.. but many find it to thin.

6qts with filter and air filter service.

Oil filter canister holds a fram c3, c3p, napa 1010, etc.. and anthing that crosses to those..

Tranny, diffy, and hyds holds 5 gallons.. though we like to put in about 4.5 or 4.75 gallons to keep oil off the tranny input shaft seal and axle seals.

New spec oil is the NH m2c134d UTF type oil, or equivalent.. napa, tsc, wallmart carry it as UTF oil.. 20-35$ depending on what flavor you get. That stuff works ok if your lift is in good shape.. and not too many leaks.. also is generally better for the cold weather folks as it is thinner.. faster hyd action..etc.

You could also use the oem spec 90wt mineral oil.. close to a gl-1 90wt oil..like napa 65-205.. or TSC carries a ford tranny oil.. wallymart carries 90wt gl-1 as well.. again.. 20-35$ depending on flavor.
Heavier oil is better for worn lifts.. or if you have leaks. Will be like honey in cold weather untill it warms up.. might need to let the tractor idle for 5 mins with pto engages to get it flowing... your choice..

Thanks for the info Soundguy. Yes I did mean ROPs. Being my first post I think I was too careful and misspoke.
