I'm rebuilding an 8N and I'm having trouble getting the oil pan off. I have removed the bolts that connect the oil pan and the block. Do I need to take the ratchet/pulley to take off the cover (part # 8N6019B)? Troubled in Ohio

Aaron,You've recieved good info and I would add (course you already know)put a floor jack under that heavy pan and be real careful in lowering it past the pump pickup tube.Same thing in installing the pan.Careful with the pickup tube !

The front pulley must be removed to remove the pan. Also be sure that all the bolts that go into the aluminum timing cover are out.

As well as all the bolts along the side and the front there are 2 bolts that are hard to see that face up on the front on either side of the front seal.Check for them. Don't pry too hard until you are sure that you have all the bolts out.It is cast and can break. Good luck.Bruce

Something no one has mentioned. Ypi probably know but just in case, The Oil pan is a structural component. Block your tractor under the transmission when you remove the pan. If you don't you stand a good chance of the machine breaking in half and snapping of the bellhousing ears on the block. Not a good thing!
