My 2n has had a constant battery drain for some time now. I have been disconnecting the battery after each use but I now would like to fix this so that the batterry does not gradually drain. The last time I inquired about this someone suggested that I start disconnecting wires until the short disappeared. When I did this it stopped after I disconnected the wire to the coil. The coil is new as is the distributor cap
points and condenser. What now? I know that sometimes you can get a bad part out of the box but it behaved the same way with the old parts.
Could a bad condenser cause this? Thanks!

Steve,

Check your terminal block on the back of the dash under the hood. There should be the ballast resistor connected between the top 2 posts. One of the posts of the ballast resistor should go to the coil. The other should go to the cold side of the switch. The hot side of the switch should go to the bottom post of the terminal block. Here is the wiring diagram for a 9N/2N 6 volt system:

My guess is that you will find the terminal block mis-wired or the switch is bad.

There should be NO power to the coil or condensor, for that matter, with the ignition switch off. Those two parts are NOT causing your problem. The problem is mis-wiring, or a bad ignition switch (possibly with dirt, moisture and corrosion inside it), that is passing a small amount of current even when it's shut off.

Is this an original 6-Volt system or a 12-Volt conversion?

Bob,
It is still the original 6volt system. Any ideas where the mis-wiring could be? Thanks.

First, check the ignition switch, either by checking for voltage on the ignition coil side if it while it's "OFF", or simply disconnect the wire from the coil side of the switch, and see if that stops your electrical drain, the same as unhooking the wire at the coil.

Bob, Thanks for the quick reply. The ignition switch is also new. I hate to fix things by throwing new parts at it, but this one has me stumped. My electrical knowledge is limited.

If the switch is new.. my guess is you miswired it to the terminal block
