I used my 4-finger elastizer pliers that I use for stretching the little rubber castration rings for little boy lambies.

Most people have eazier access to boiling water to soften the tranny shifter boot so it will stretch over everything..... ...Dell

Thant explains the comments and diagrams I saw on the "Dells Boy Lambies" web site. Something about what was going to happen to that guy with that four finger thing-a-ma-gig if he ever turns his back. :-)

Dell,

Have you ever used the clamp type of emasculators? I also use the rubber rings on my lambs, but have been told that the the Burdizos give fewer problems. (Only problems I've ever had are one (fatal) case of tetenus (years ago...always cover with tetenus shot now) and an occasional problem getting the balls to stay below the rubber ring when I release it).

Paul..... .I've never had problems with the little rubber donuts. No, I've never used the Burdizos emasculators, and I'm glad I don't have to do it the old fashioned way with my teeth. I have some lady friends that have problems getting both testicles (grin)..... ...Dell

I first tried greasing the boot and had one classic he11 of a time with it. Then I removed the grease (which allowed me to get a better grip) and was able to stretch it over and on.

Boiling rubber? It works for cork, as I learned in my flyrod building and old motorcycle clutch days. I don't think it should do any long term harm to the rubber, but am puzzled to read that it might soften it. Maybe it's just being softened by the heat? (I'd think the water would not affect the rubber) so you should be able to use other heat sources...then again, boiling is safe in that it limits the heat to your local boiling point.

Not to be smart, but if the correct boot is used, there is NO problem to installing the boots. Most aftermarket boots are cheap junk. don

Not so!

I got my boot DIRECTLY from a NH dealer and it was STILL hard to install! The turning-inside-out trick works! If you grease or oil it, it's just that much harder to hold on to. I dropped mine into a cup of near-boiling water for two minutes prior to installation, and it stretched over easier, but it still took a little effort. Good luck!

I rolled it inside out then kinda rolled back over the flange. Still wasn't easy. Read a post a little ways back that said to boil it first to soften it up and make it a litle easier.

Good Luck

'boli'ing' it helps to soften it. I think it's similar to boiling it. -9N'er
