Hydraulic Add-Ons???

1953 Jubilee I'm working on here. I need some input from someone a little more knowledgable about this hydraulic system than myself. I'm trying to attempt to run a hydraulic cylinder with my existing system. This cylinder will be used to raise and "gravity lower" a hay rake. The hayrake uses one hydraulic hose. A single remote hydaulic setup would work but it seems that no-one has one for the 1953-54 Fords. So I'm considering using the test port on the manifold plate as a pressure line to feed a closed center single spool valve, then a return line to the reservoir, (my reservoir is just for hydro fluid NAA) then I should be able to run just one line to the cylinder off the spool valve and the valve should pressure the line when you push the valve one way and return fluid when you pull it. Questions: 1. Is a closed center valve what I need or an open center? 2. Is there an easier way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? 3. Will I have to chain my lift arms down to do this?

Remember that this is a Jubilee that has a piston-style hydro pump and a reservoir that exclusively is used for just the hydraulics if that matters.

You will have to tie the lift arms down to use the port in the adapter plate to run the hydraulics out of it.

Zane, I read this after I sent the e-mail. What you are saying is that if I immobilize the lift arms (chain them down) and run a line from the test port on the manifold plate then I can run my single acting cylinder with the position control lever???? This would be a lot simpler to do and would not clutter up the "cab" on the old girl. Besides being considerable cheaper.

I thought someone was still making the spool valves that atached atop the hyd top cover for the NAA?

Sounds like a mchinest and a piece of aluminum billet should be able to cobble one up, and then reproduce it on a cnc mill.. etc.

MY 9N USES A One piston lift.
The system uses the test port that goes to a
T. one end goes up to the plunger dump valve
that feeds the fluid back to the top of the
hydraulic inspection plate. the valve is
struck when the draft handle is all the way
down. The other end of the T goes to a
quick connect that runs the hydraulic cylinder.

The rear lift arms must be chained to the
axles for the fluid to push out the test
port.
The system works very good.
