I need to know if you pull the distbutercan you get it out of time or will it only go back in one way. thanks ALFRED

If it is a front-mount distributor, it has an offset drive tang that will only go in one way, unless forced, which will break it.

Be sure the distributor is seated all the way in against the block, by hand, before you tighten the bolts.

It is also helpfull to rotate the engine (before removing the distributor) so that the rotor points to a specific position, such as straight up. As long as the engine is not turned while the distributor is removed, you can rotate the distributor so the rotor points in the same direction to help line it up in the drive slot when reinstalling it.

If you have a side-mount distributor, it is gear driven, and it can be put in in as many positions as there are teeth, something like 9 or 11.
