If that 6x1 has a 5 spd pto, you have a great machine.

I picked up a 660 a while back.. it is night and day difference between my 2n/8n/NAA. The 5spd is a weird alien tranny.. but works..

The 601"s are one of the best of the old Fords. they started out as Jubilees in "53 and evolved from a darn good tractor then to a d___ good one with the "58 601"s. The last one was a 2000 in about "62. It is way yonder better than a 9n and if you get a good one, you"ll never regret it. oz

The 6x1 tractor is much more tractor than is a 9N. Aside from about 10-12 more HP it will have live hydraulics. It will also be somewhat heavier, have larger tires, and may have power steering. Depending upon the specific model, it may have live PTO. Since the one you are looking at has a manual transmission, it is not a SOS. If it is a 5 speed, it may have live PTO. If it is a 4 speed, it cannot have live PTO.

My grampa has one and I use it on occasion, and it is a very good tractor. Steer clear of the SOS tranny, from what I hear it is bad news. Live Hydraulics are a plus, along with a larger engine, 134 ci with OHV.

Thats a step up from a 9N probably 10-15 HP bigger. It would also have live hyds. and depending on which one it could also have live PTO. Also it could have the SOS, or 4 speed or 5 speed. If it had the SOS I wouldn't buy it but thats me, they have a lot less value. Other wise it would be about the same as looking at an N tires hyds etc

Select-O-speed fords automatic sort of, they had proplems with them at time and are costly to repair if they have a problem. HP rateing as per Neb test is 28-37 depending on tranny. They made a number of differants ones series like the 501,601,701,801,and 901. Each was a little bigger then the other. Depending on the tranny and PTO you could be looking at say a 640,614,651,660,or 681.

9n8801, the sos is "select-o-speed," it was a sort of shift on the fly, semi manuel transmission, they had more speeds, but suffered massive durability problems, and very few are still working as intended, and for the broken ones praticaly no parts are available today, ericlb
