Opinions on what to do. I was thinking about taking it to a radiator shop and having it put in an acid bath and then bring it home and use the Kreem kit on it. Sound like a good plan or is there better way. Tired of fighting dirty fuel problems.

I doiled my own in my homemade elctrolysis bath.

-Rubbermade container big enough to fit the gas tank
- Fill wit water and add1/2 cup or so lye or Washing soda
- 10 Amp Battery charger Black on your gas tank and red on and old chunk of iron hanging on the side of the bath ( do not touch them together)
Let it boil for a day or so and it will be nice and clean and any rust will turn black. Rinse with clear water and dry well and its good to go

Safety: lye eats through your skin...skin on your hands, face or eyes it dont care so use some sense and wear safety glasses long sleeves and rubber gloves

I was going to take my tank to the local radiator shop for cleaning. They recommended just pressure washing the heck out of it. I did that several times and haven't had nary a problem since. It even cleaned the little vent hole that had always been plugged up.

I used POR in my Farmall tank three years ago. It is a slow process and seemed to do a real nice job. Bad part is I noticed this spring small silver flakes in my sediment bowl so must be coming off inside of tank. To do it over I think I would just boil it out and use it as is.

If it was mine, I would just take it to the radiator shop, get it cleaned, check and repair any pin holes, and just use it. I have heard of to many horror stories of gas tank sealant peeling away from the inside of the tank and causing even more problems than rust particles.

Just my $.02 worth.

Good luck,
Dan

Lots of ways to go here, some use detergent and water to clean out the gunk, then use a chain, nails, screws, marbles etc. and rotate tank to break up the rust. Others take to a radiator shop. I bought the kit from POR 15 and I'm in the process of doing my tank today so I'll let you know in a few days how it turns out..... ... BG

BG,
I used the POR-15 kit a couple months ago. Seems like it did real good. Only complaint is the amount of time to soak, turn, soak, turn, ad nauseum. One of the steps says to use HOT water, then leave it in the tank for hours and hours, turning it every which way to get all surfaces. Must be for folks in Death Valley in August.

Yea I hear you Russ. I used boiling water but it only stayed hot for about 20min in the tank. Today after numerous rinsings and drying I put in the "metal ready" (phosphoric acid). It says to leave it in for 30 min then check to see if rust is gone. Well its been in about 5 hours now and I still see rust. Does anything ever work the way its supposed to work?..... .... BG
