Just purchased a new kingpin (2N3126D) and Bushing (2N3039) for my '42 N (9N90613). I haven't tried to install yet, but I noticed that the king pin is for 2N after 164488 (but it is just like the one I'm replacing?) and the bushing is made of brass (not steel) and is twice as wide as the one which is being replaced. The old one is slightly less than 3/4" wide and has a split, while the new brass one is 1.5" wide and is appx. 1/8" smaller O.D. and doesn't hve the split. I didn't want to muck these up trying to install until I'm pretty sure I have the right parts. Thanks for any info.

You have good numbers there. The Assembly manual shows that -D kingpin good for 2N, 8N 1942/52. The -E kingpin is good for 2N 1942/47. Can"t say the difference. Maybe you want both in case and return the one you don"t use.
My experience is that either split or solid bushing fits ok. Should slide right over the kingpin there in your hand so you can know that.
Maybe your bushing looks brass because of the finish. Got a magnet? I think I"d want steel. As I remember last time, CNH sold me a solid, steel bushing. And it was the same thick as the axle so I don"t know what you got with that 3/4" bushing.
If you dont have spacers you should get them. You can make a 3/4" spacer by wrapping a piece of 1/8"x3/4" flat around the kingpin and several 14ga. 1-3/4" machinery bushings take up the rest. I believe CNH can get you spacers used on later models to fit but they don"t show stock for the 2N or 8N. Something like that anyway. I got the machinery bushings/spacers at a spring and axle shop; guy just gave me a handful. TSC has the 1/8"x3/4" flat for a dollar or so. Spacers sure make a difference on the steering, the bushing will wear even, and the axle will sit square. My 2N doesn"t try to rip my thumb off when it hits a hole or bump. I like the difference with the spacers; a lot.

Thanks for the post. I had not really tried to fit the king pin and bushing in the tractor when I made my post. I was only comparing the pieces. When checking the archives, I read where some of the contributers did not use spacers and I didn't think I would use them either since I didn't think I had any. Upon cleaning up the area around the pin and in the catch basin under the axel, I found two thin spacers. The 3/4" piece that I thought was a bushing appearantly was the front spacer. Anyway I was able to remove the old worn steel bushing with a cold chisel and drift. Used a little pb blaster to clean up the area and set the new brass bushing. Decided to go ahead and use the brass bushing. I used a rubber mallot to start it and then drove it home with a 3 lb hammer and block of 2X4. Inserted the king pin and reused the spacers. Went easier than I expected.

Now I'm doing a complete tune up including a new 12v coil (front mount). Guy I bought the coil from said that I should still use the ballast resister plus another resister in series even tho its rated at 12 volts. It really sounds like over-kill to me, but I'm doing as he said. Thanks again
