Ok might have figured problem out, maybe.....exhaust leak on no.1 at manifold and block, wouldn't explain knock on left side of motor. Took comp. test...4 hits no.4 140, no.3 138, no.2 135, no.1 133. first hit all had 120 cold and dry. My question....pull pan and check rod bearings? If good maybe wrist pin or sleeve moving? Still stops knock when I pull no.1 wire. Dosen't knock entil it gets to 120 deg. I'm baffled, flex your brains for me. Thanks

five-oh,
souNdguy et.al. are as close as you're gonna get until you look. The 120 degree corelation is more likely related to oil viscosity than water temp. "pull plugwire, no noise" is so often a rod issue that pointing elsewhere is a complete WAG. Have you used your x-ray vision to check #1 wrist pin retainers?

Could always pull the head and roll it over if you though the sleave was moving.. course.. I don;t think the fire/no fire issue would be evident with a knock with the sleave moving.. In other words.. I'd think it would move with or without the spark plug fireing. i'm with the others on a rod issue.
