What is a reasonable price to pay for a rebuild of a 8n side dist motor. Considering that the crank, cam and block are usable. Replacing sleeves, pistons, valve job. ect.

Replaced pistons/sleeves,bearings,all new valves/guides and components. Had the block acid dipped, valve seats ground, and head resurfaced with total cost at $600. This was all my own assembly. I can"t do any of the machine work. It is the labor cost that is really expensive if you don"t do it yourself. Tractor now has 20 hrs on proof meter and is running good. They are pretty simple give it a try yourself. Good luck.

Price is the same here in VA as it is in AL; about $1k, w/ parts being $450. No machine shop work involved; that's sleeves, pistons, bearings, rings, valves, & oil pump.

So if you replaced the valves, what did you do about the valve seats? Did they not have to be machined to match the new valves???

I was given a figure of about a grand down here in south alabama. Gonna hobble it through to winter and do it myself and save some dough for another implement. Parts are about $400 for a kit.

Good Luck!
