I have a prewar 9N with the front mounted dist with a 12volt single wire alt. conv. I have replaced the coil (3) times, ign sw,condensor, spark plugs, wired in the (2) 1ohm resistors in parllel, put a carb rebiuldt kit in, My tractor still misses out after about 30 to 45 min run time. The only elec part I have not replaced is the wiring harness. My dad thinks that is my problem, that it is shorting out when it gets hot inside the metal tube. I'm out of options any idea's?

Rick.. one thing you don't mention is coil TYPE you are using. Are you using the tisco style 12v front ount coil and Dells resisotr only, or is the oem ballast resistor still in there.. or are you using an oem style 6v coil.. etc?

Rick..... ...ya done all the right checks and parts replacements ...but... I don't think its yer ignition coil wire down the sparkie tube. And while the 30-45 minute run time is still within both the squarecan frontmount ignition coil and ignition switch failure timeframe. I think it is still yer weaksister ignition switch. You doubt? Make-up an ignition switch by-pass wire with alligator clippies and next time it starts missing, by-pass the ignition switch. Bettcha clears right up..... ....Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Further down the possibles list in reply to Dell (WA), 05-08-2005 12:19:50
rick,
NOT a likely suspect, but cheap to check, is a clogged gas tank vent. If the jumper doesn't fix it (or your tool shed is like mine and you can only come up with one alligator clip), try loosening the tank cap.
