Last winter I bought my 8n and the pulley on the water pump was broken the back side of the pulley broke though it still spun the fan/pump it had to be replaced so I went to an NH dealer got a new pump and put it on. Recently I took the tractor to a shop and had the front seal replaced and the gen worked over. Drove it back to the farm and discovered that the pulley on the pump is broken in the same place. What could be causeing this? Is there something on these N Fords that goes wrong and causes this? I know something is wrong and I need to know what it is. Odd as those are a heavy steel pulley. Also I have the correct belt on it as I got a belt from the dealer when I got the new pump. Thanks for any advice guys. My e-mail is open if you like.

I don"t know what"s in the archives but I haven"t seen any discussion of your problem.
I would take a hard look at the fan see it the tips of the blades are tore up from hitting something, a blade is cracked near the hub, or one blade is angled different than the others causing vibration. Look to see that the three pulleys are lined up the same.
Belt tight is 1/2" total play half-way between the crank and genny.
All I can say after that if you can"t see the problem and it happens again you should replace the fan just in case.
That said, I"ve never seen your problem.

Ok that is a good idea I looked at the alignment of it and the gen and they seem aligned but I will look closer. I will also look at the fan like you said as well as the alignment with the crank pulley. Thanks

Wyler..... ....yep, its yer frontaxle kingpin or the frontaxle brackett that bolt to the front of the engine. The sheetmetal waterpump pulley is also known for bending but the HD 1-piece billet style frontend loader replacement pulley is generally considered bullett-proof (unless you keep hitting it with yer frontaxle)..... ....Dell

It took me a second to see how the front axle pivot being wore could cause a pulley to break. The pulley I am haveing problems with is the one on the waterpump. Thanks for the help.
