Didn't get nearly as far as I thought I would this weekend what with the holiday and mostly because the gook on this tractor is thick and takes a lot of soaking to clean off. I have redone the old sediment bowl assembly because TSC did not have a replacement and my (hour away) Ford dealer is closed. It looks like new and I suspect will work fine but when I cleaned the threads below the "in tank" filter I found a lot of plumbers tape wrapped around them. This had melted pretty badly and got me to thinking if I need to put anything on these threads before I fit it back on the tank to keep it from leaking.
Didn't really see anything in the FO-4 on this but of course I could have missed it. Do I put anything on the threads or just screw it back on?

Thank you guys! I did go ahead and put some tape around the base of the threads for the bowl assembly and reinstalled it and reattached the fuel line carefully with a little oil on the threads. Need to run up and get some gas to see if it leaks or not. Meanwhile I have the carb all disassembled and need some help there. See post above. Thanks again!

I used the tape but keep it down a thread, or two, from the top. The tape will plug stuff up if it gets inside. HTH....don t. ....

That tape is probably not a problem and you will almost certainly need something. My 8N has loose threads and I use carefully applied tape to take up the slop. One of the rare places I will use tape because I much prefer the PTFE paste.
Those flare fittings, put a drop or two of lube on them, dipstick oil is fine even, so it can pull up easy and tight. Beware of crossthreading because it"s very, very easy to do and will cost you a valve. Seat the fuel line in the carb fitting but leave it 1/4-turn or so loose to allow the hard line some movement and then seat and tighten at the tank valve fitting. Then go back and tighten down the carb end.

Its a flair fitting so don't put any thing on them. Most people that do so have problems because the gas will eat the stuff and get in the system and clogged things up
