I just replaced the old rusted up manifold on my 8N. She Cranked up before. Now there is no crank. I just replaced the spark plugs and set them at 25-28. It gets good fire. It tries to crank and sputters dead. Then it blows a small amount of smoke out of the carburator. Could the exaust be stopped up or what? Any suggestions? Thanks

Just a thought, when you replaced the spark plugs you did put the wires back on the plugs correctly didnt you? Firing order is 1-2-4-3..... ....BG

What the hey you do changing the manifold keeps it from firing up? Maybe what rbell is saying maybe got the carb on wrong. Some guys get the carb on there so the throttle plate is always on full throttle and can"t close down. Reach around the carb and check for full movement in the linkages and arms on the throttle and choke. That should tell you if the carb is on there wrong.
FYI: "crank" is what the starter motor does to the engine. "Fire up" is to start and run. Generally.
Is the spark snappy, blue because wimpy, yellow is no good.

Lets see you get spark, therefore the motor must be cranking over, but it wont start?
You say it sputters then dies, and you see a puff back through the carb?
Did you mess with the timing? NO?
You did reopen the fuel valve (DAMHIKT)
Did you get the gaseket sealed? Sounds like a biggy vacum leak to me.
Hit it with some starter fluid, see if once started it will continue, if not look for lack of fuel mixture (no suction to pull it into the engine)
Most often caused by a slipped intake gasket during assembly (DAMHIKT)
