Another question! This seems like such a simple question, but.....

I have looked on ebay for a new gas cap for my 2N.
The Ford parts guy this AM comes out with this bright blue vented cap and wants $68 for it. He said that I must have a "vented" cap as the tractor is gravity fed. Makes sense. The caps on ebay are "non-vented" and claim to be for the same tractor. Could someone tell me what I need?

The gas guage only works if you open the lid and look at it once and awhile, don't ask me how I know this.

Your local NH dealer still offers the free safety gas cap and decal exchange as Ford did since 1986 for 1939-1982 US Ford gas tractors, tell them they can get reimbursed by using service bulletin# 1993/10-T2 (or contact their service rep. for help) and give them your old cap, model and hand stamped serial# on the left side of the engine block near the oil filter (NOT a raised casting number near the starter or on the transmission) and it will be free unless they need to order it then there may be shipping. Keep the gas level below the plastic neck that sticks down into the tank.

Just called my local NH dealer and he said the free gas cap exchange ended a year ago and a new cap is $38.04. Is this BS?

Wow! Four hits within ten minutes. Guess I WILL be able to run up to the store yet this afternoon.
That explains that one to the hilt and I am greatly appreciative. Now if I could just make up my mind regarding original or the new gauge type?!?!

I just got one of those guage gas caps from Red Rock Mfg.
This is a very handy item to have.
I can see how much gas is in the tank at just a glance.
It was worth the $23 to get this thing.
If you already got to replace your cap,
you mite want to think about one of these.

Give the N/H guy your cap and tell him there was a re-call on the caps.BUT.....the original caps were non-vented because there is a vent on your gas tank. Most just replace with original cap available from N.C.parts store if not available from this site.Part number is 9N 9030. don b

Was there really a recall? I seem to remember at one time they were giving free replacements of the gas caps, but that was a long time ago, probably even before Ford became New Holland.
I also seem to remember asking about this at NH dealer about 2 yrs ago and they looked at me like I was crazy.

Some companies had a limit to their recall, while others seem unconditional.. Like I said.. just recently I got the replacement gas cap for my 1966 IH cub.. etc..

third party image

The N gas tank was designed with a buit in vent. In the pic ther is a wire sticking out the domed top on mine. I guess the whole hoop-la about the must have vented caps is from what I hear, is some idiot caught himself on fire and blamed and sued the tractor manufacturer so now they are play cover the butt and doing vented caps. Anyway the original unvented cap works just fine if you keep the vent hole on the tank unplugged

Original cap was NV, and your gas tank had a vent hole.

Fast forward a few liability claims and years, and some dirt that plugs your tanks vent hole.

New spec gas cap is spendy and has a vent.

You can find 'will-fits' at places like tsc that are not vented.. though they may say 'diesel only'..etc. My 8n has one like this.. while my NAA, 660, and 2n have the oem style.

A few other manufactures went to after market vented caps.. i just sent away and rec'vd a vented cap for my IH-Cub.. it was aprt of a safety recall, and they still honor it.. got a big ugly honking vented super duper safety gas cap for free... things so ugly I will never put it on though!!
